Mazda's Far Out Rotary Sports Concept: Taiki powered by the 16X |
|

Today, Mazda announced their 2007 Tokyo Autoshow lineup, including the far-out coupe concept the TAIKI, and the next generation Rotary Engine: the 16X. The Mazda Taiki continues the evolution of the Nagare design theme, following in the footsteps of the Mazda Nagare, Mazda Ryuga, and Mazda Hakaze concept vehicles. As the fourth in the series, Mazda Taiki further advances and refines the theme through a fusion of the Nagare (flow) design concept and real-world technologies, such as a next-generation rotary engine and enhanced aerodynamic performance. Mazda Taiki sets a new ideal for the front-engine rear-drive sports car of the future.
Next Generation RENESIS (Rotary Engine 16X)
In developing the next-generation RENESIS, Mazda made a thoroughgoing revision of engine dimensions including the trochoid rotor housing, adopting a longer stroke and larger displacement of 1600cc (800cc x 2) aimed to raise thermal efficiency and boost torque at all engine speeds. By employing the Hydrogen RE design policy of a direct injection system and aluminum side housing, as well as various other measures, we are further promoting the rotary engine’s merits of light weight and compact size. |

Rotary Nirvana. RX-7 Heaven. The Best Yet. SevenStock X was the place to be last weekend if you even remotely consider yourself a Rotorhead. The event started 10 years ago as a little BBQ, the first large get together of the SoCal RX-7 club. Since 1997, many things have changed. The club exploded in membership, changed their name to SoCal RX Club, and they turned the yearly little BBQ to the largest Rotary Event in the WORLD! Not only was this a special anniversary of the event, but it is also a special anniversary of the Rotary Engine at Mazda. In 1967, the rotary powered Mazda Cosmo 110s was introduced to the world. 40 years later, the rotary revolution is going strong, and SevenStock marked the dual anniversary in a spectacular way, with the theme centered on rotary heritage. |

UPdate: The news is out: Mazda will be showing the Taiki and the 16X Long-Stroke Rotary Engine at Tokyo this year.Read this article for all the information
One of our favorite Japanese Magazines has a 'scoop' on what Mazda will be displaying at the 2007 Tokyo Autoshow, this October 2007. Following on the Nagere, Ryuga, Senku, and Hakaze concepts, this is the 'final' concept Mazda will show in the 'flow' series. Some of these lines have already made it into production cars, like the new Mazda 6, and some minor face lifts in the Mazda 3, and 5. (Also expect to see a face-lifted RX-8 coming this winter). The bigger news, however is just that. Bigger.... |

Daytona Beach, FL -- With prophetic words in his post-Mid-Ohio interview, SpeedSource owner Sylvain Tremblay couldn't be entirely happy with second place, saying, "Mazda wants us to win. We come to these races to win." Under a clear night sky at the Brumos Porsche 250 in Daytona July 5, Tremblay and co-driver Nick Ham did exactly that.
With Ham's quick lap of 1:52.681 in qualifying, the Florida-based No. 70 SpeedSource Mazdaspeed GT RX-8 started from pole and never looked back, taking the team's third win of the Grand-Am Rolex Series season by over 9 seconds. It was the win they needed - salve for the results at Lime Rock and Watkins Glen, and inspiration for the Iowa-Barber pairing in the weeks to come. |

Lexington, OH - After a hard crash at the Grand-Am Rolex Series June 9 race at Watkins Glen, the SpeedSource Mazdaspeed No. 70 GT RX-8 arrived at the Mid-Ohio Emco Gears Classic rebuilt, better than ever, and ready to race. Team owner and driver Sylvain Tremblay, who took the 90 mph hit, spoke highly of the team's commitment which put SpeedSource in the points lead for the season's first four races.
"Every team member worked his heart out this past week to get us here," said Tremblay of the rebuild effort. "We are back on track thanks to the dedication of the people around us. Everyone involved -- from Mazdaspeed to all our vendors to Riley Technologies - everyone stepped up to keep us in contention for this championship. Our sponsors are so much more to us than just a sticker on the side of the car. When we needed them they were there for us." |
