RX-7 Limited Edition Type R Bathurst R (for Japan Only!)
Submitted by SuperUser on Thursday, August 30, 2001 - 12:00am

WIDTH=208 HEIGHT=90>Mazda Motor Corporation has released a limited edition version of the RX-7 rotary engine real sports car. Equipped with features designed to enhance driving pleasure and its sporty appeal, the new Type R Bathurst R goes on sale today at Mazda Anfini dealerships throughout Japan.

The RX-7 has a particularly distinctive design, brimming with originality. Its lightweight, compact, high-output rotary engine allows it to raise responsive handling and performance to an exceptionally high level. The RX-7 is a sports car that exemplifies the Mazda spirit.

The new limited edition model is based on the Type R, with the lightest power-weight ratio among RX-7 series, and features custom height-adjustable dampers designed specially for the limited edition model for enhanced driving excitement. In addition, employing the carbon tone cockpit reminiscent of a racing car adds up to a thoroughly sporty feel. Three body colors are available, including exclusive color for this limited edition vehicle: Sunburst Yellow.

The name Bathurst was chosen to commemorate the Bathurst 12-hour car race in Australia, where the RX-7 has been victorious for three consecutive years (1992 through 1994). Since that time all limited edition versions of the RX-7 have carried the Bathurst name.

Sales of the RX-7 Type R Bathurst R are limited to 500 units for all of Japan.

Submitted by SuperUser on Saturday, June 16, 2001 - 12:00am

Sevenstock 4 was a great success. The food vendor brough food for 1500 people, they ran out and had to get 500 more
servings, and sold those out too!! This was the largest gatherings of R100s, RX-2s, RX-3s, RX-4s, RX-5s, REPUs, Rotary
Conversions, Rotary Race Cars and RX-7s EVER!

A full event wrap-up will be posted shortly, with photos, mpeg videos, and links flowing on this site throughout the next week.

Until then, checkout some of the Digital Photos Dan Mazzella
took at the event, some 200+ Digital Photos that shutter-bug Ahn

Spy Shots: '04 Mazda Miata
Submitted by SuperUser on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 - 12:00am

WIDTH=187 HEIGHT=90>believe the next Miata will look like." It is true that the next Miata will start with a clean slate, and will probably share many components with the RX-8 and possibly a new RX-7, but this
concept drawing is a little overboard, and not in-line with the direction (I see) Mazda taking.

Rotary Quicknews!
Submitted by SuperUser on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 - 12:00am

A whole bunch of smaller stories have been stacking up over the past few weeks, so it is time for another edition of "Rotary

First off, there is a group at UC Berkeley that is developing a Mini-Micro Rotary Engine for use in nano technology. The current model is an
intermediate size one, about 1/64th the size of our engines.

Second up is a new (to me) company that has developed a rotary powered helicopter, Moller, eat your heart out! Stitt Industries Inc. has kits for 75hp, 150hp, and 240hp rotary helicopters. Their site has a
FAQ, parts list, discussion group, and more...

Next up isn't really "Rotary News", as it is Mazda News. Mazda has inked a deal with the Laguna Seca Raceway to become the title
sponsor of the raceway... With this agreement, Mazda becomes the first auto manufacturer to be the title sponsor of a major
motorsports facility. Again, while not "Rotary News", it shows that Mazda is serious about racing, and their heritage. Soon, you
should see some new rotaries flying around the raceway.

I ran across a cool perl script that tells you how much things "suck" or "rule" from queries against's DB. So, I
tried it out, and got some very suprising results.

Sevenstock 4 planning is going well. Nearly 200 people have said
they are going to attend (according to the poll, so the attendance number should be much more!) Confirmations are flowing in from
Magazines, Vendors, Speed Shops, and Racers. This will be an exciting event. Click here for more information!
