Does anyone know if Mazda or anyone else has plans for a single rotor elecric assist Hybrid.
The two would mate together beautifully with famous rotary HP and all that torque from the electric assist

I'm waiting for this to happen too. I don't get it, the
rotary is perfect for this; add Direct Injection and you're
there. When you realize how small the tandem motor/rotor
would be, you just wonder, is anyone at Mazda going
to make this happen. The electric motor itself eliminates
the rotaries weaknesses: low end torque, fuel milage
and plug fouling. (the latter due to starting and shutting
the car down quickly)
If this would ever come to fruition, I hope it's not limited to
only one rotor - let's have some fun too!

I absolutely agree! I've been pleading for Mazda to go into production with this combination ever since it was shown off in the Senku and a variant of the Mazda5. From what I've seen, a 2 rotor Renesis with an electric assist motor/generator should fit in any envelope that can accomodate a 3 rotor. An RX-8 with such a hybrid powertrain (if it maintained front/rear balance) is the only car I can imagine being willing to trade my existing RX-8 for. So, if Mazda wants me to buy another RX-8 sooner, rather than later, they need the hybrid powertrain.
