(Saukville, Wisconsin) Tuesday, July 12, 2006 – When the green flag dropped at this last weekend’s American Le Mans Series event at Miller Motorsports Park, outside of Salt Lake City, Utah…a familiar sound was absent….that of the 3 rotor Mazda, which powers the B-K Motorsports LMP 2 entry. Unfortunately, damage sustained in the incident during the first hour of the New England Grand Prix at Limerock is such that the team could not get the car repaired in time.
“We have been working significant hours to get things repaired in time, and we did not want to take any chances with the components on the car that have been hard to get replaced quickly…we simply could not get some of the necessary spares in our hands fast enough,” commented Marcus Haselgrove, Team Manager/Technical Director for B-K Motorsports.
B-K kicked off the 2006 campaign with a 5th place finish at the 12 Hours of Sebring, followed by a runner-up finish on the temporary circuit in Houston. A week later, a 4th place finish at Mid-Ohio had Jamie Bach and Guy Cosmo sitting third in the LMP 2 points standings heading into the Limerock event. Unfortunately, the Limerock incident handed the team their first DNF of the season….and only their second DNF in 13 ALMS starts…dating back to April 2005 when the team debuted the 3 rotor Mazda.
“We talked with KUMHO and Road & Track and we all agreed that taking our time and having everything in place is the only scenario. We are making plans to rejoin the ALMS as soon as possible….and we can all hear the echos of the Mazda rotary power again,” added Haselgrove. |
