How to increase HP in a RX-8

Start with a Racingbeat Exhaust, followed by a aftermarket piggyback ECU like the canzoomer or emanage, then the racing beat air box should be out, so get one of those. Then you'll need up upgrade your tires, and wheels, then brakes, and then suspension.

Thanks Dan for your quick response. What is an aftermarket piggyback ECU, how it works, and what is the approximate price. Would this modification affect the warranty? In your response you stated that "the racing beat air box should be out" what do you mean by that. Do you mean a cold/short ram intake system should be installed intead of the stock air box? I appreciate your input in this matter since I am new in this field.

Canzoom or Emanage are examples of piggyback ecu's. The sit inbetween the engine and stock computer, and modify fuel injector timings and timing to increase power.

The Racing Beat air box is in testing right now. It is basically K&N filter in a custom engineered box to increase flow and keep noise down as well (the filter from K&N is 90+ Db loud)

Thank you Dan for your clarification! I have read that piggyback ECUs are difficult to set in a complex computer like the one in the RX-8. Dou you have one installed in your vehicle? In your prior note you mentioned the Racing Beat air box, which is not in the market at this moment. How about another air intake system such as the Typhoon short K&N series or the Ram air sealed cold airbox intake system by SR motorsports. Have you heard about these two? Please advice!

Racing Beat says the air box is available for sale. They are working on a ram air adapter you can add later to shoot outside air right in there!

Has anyone tried the Mazdaspeed Cold Air Intake? I'm intrigued because it's CARB-certified, unlike the RB intake.
