My 1985 RX-7gsl, wondrin bout oil...
Submitted by ajwiz1 on Friday, March 11, 2005 - 3:58pm

this is my first car, and i love it to death, but i was wondering what type of oil to use in it, i've been using the high mileage stuff... but like a rotary engine does, i was wondering about switching to a burn off protection. i've owned the car for a little over a month and want to make sure it lasts for another 94k miles. any help would be... helpful. : )

Normal Castrol Oil, 20w-50 (if you live in a warmer climate) should be fine. Just make sure you change it every 2500 miles. Don't go 5000 before changing it.

What can happen in older rotaries is the seals get a little weaker, and can allow gas into the oil. When this happens, the viscosity breakes down, and you get this soupy stuff... So it really doesn't matter what kind of oil you use, since it will become polluted with gas, so expensive stuff won't buy you anything, other than emptying your wallet fast.
