SpeedSource RX-8 takes 1st win!
Submitted by SuperUser on Monday, April 12, 2004 - 1:39pm

David Haskell and Sylvain Tremblay of the SpeedSource team drove a Mazda RX-8 to victory in the Grand-Am Sport Touring 200 by 27.642 seconds over the polesitting Turner Motorsports team of Don Salama and Will Turner.

The SpeedSource team made a calculated pit stop, taking on just two tires instead of four to save time.

"The car was fine," Tremblay said. "It wasn't as fast as four tires, but the strategy was sound. The crew did their job in terms of the pit stop, and we stuck to our race plan."

The victory was the first North American professional race win for the Mazda RX-8 car. SpeedSource debuted the Mazda RX-8 in the Grand-Am Cup Series in January at the Daytona 250, and the cars first win comes in only its third race.
