RN west coast editor Berny Herrera, has teamed up with Victor Mencias and Gary Salva, all members of the So-Cal RX Club, to pursue a desire to join the ranks of the amateur racing establishment. All three share a common life long interest in Rotary motorsports, but especially the love of road/circuit racing Rotaries. The newly formed team has the goal of building and campaigning a 2nd generation RX-7 in the SCCA ITS class of the Cal Club region. But, as with most amateur racers, a modest budget and a lot of desire will have to be taken a long way.
The trio will be working with key folks and companies in the Rotary world for technical guidance and support, as well as to move the project along in as an efficient manner as possible. Key and first and foremost among these companies is Mariah Motorsports, which not only campaign a national level SCCA E-Production RX-7, but also supply and support a few other race cars in the E-Prod class and are 2nd generation RX-7 experts. The great guys over at www.FC3S.org will also be lending a hand with support and product as will Pineapple Racing from the great northwest. Since the ITS class is a very limited prep class, the team will be using many parts that translate well to street cars and RN will be passing on as much data as possible on their performance and use.
Please join RN as we embark on this journey into the world of grassroots racing that RN will share with its readership, every step of the way.
The BIG Shameless Plug: If any other Rotary related companies or individuals out there would like to join and support the team, or would like for us to test a product on the car for them, please feel free to contact Berny Herrera for further details at: berny at rotarynews dot com
A big thank you to all those folks who are already supporting the team:

Pineapple Racing
And to all those other future folks whom will, we really appreciate it!
Stay tuned, because the car has already been bought and the transformation from streetcar to racer is starting to unfold. |
