RX-8 News from the UK (plus) "Formula Woman"
Submitted by SuperUser on Friday, January 10, 2003 - 3:25pm

Clive Haynsford from the UK writes in: "I went to the Autosport show today in Birmingham England today (on trade day ) to find not only the first RX-8 ever seen in Britain (it apparently landed from Japan last night), but also lucky to be at the launch of a new one make series (the RX-8) for women that will form both a TV series and a competition to find the 16 woman that will take part. See www.formulawoman.com or www.mazda.co.uk. The motorsport body in Britain that froms this hope it will encourage more woman to be actively involved in motorsport as they used to be at Brooklands in the 1920s and 1930s."

Formula Woman will change the face of Motorsport forever. For the first time in history, Women will race against each other in a one-make Motorsport Championship.

This is an opportunity for complete novice drivers to be trained and obtain a Motorsport Association Licence to compete in what has up to now been considered a male dominated sport.

Initially, 2400 successful applicants will be invited to driver assessments at a local race circuit to test their strengths, nerve and stamina as well as driving skills. From this, 16 finalists will undertake further training to ensure they are prepared to compete in the Mazda RX-8 Formula Woman Championship which will take place at race circuits throughout the UK. Each car and driver will be fully sponsored and a substantial prize fund will also be announced in Spring 2003.
