New Rotary Racing Advert.
Submitted by SuperUser on Monday, November 4, 2002 - 9:59am

Tim Schuh (President of the Dallas/FW Rx-7 Club) was able to capture the latest Mazda ad, the first in many many years featuring the rotary engine. There was no
mention of any specific cars but they did show footage of various IMSA
racers, the Le Mans Champ and some lovely cut-aways of the Renesis. There is a great voice over: "None of these Mazda race cars ever dropped a valve, pulled a piston, or threw a connecting rod. Maybe that's why they've established one of the greatest winning records in racing history."
This is the first commercial re-introducing the rotary engine, and is currently playing on the Speed Channel. However, Tim's capture is available Here (8.1MB mpeg), at here (7.3MB wmw) or Mirrored Here

Too bad the first engine sound you hear isn't a rotary, sounds like a klunk of a V8 or something... ICK!

Why doesn't the the people in hollywood ever use the correct sound for a rotary!?! The Xmen trailer was the same!

Mazda Ignorance Abounds

Mazda marketing continues to blunder. Their website, refered to in the promo, doesn't support anything but IE and Netscape 4. That's patently stupid, considering they are courting a technically sophisticated market. Not smart, Mazda.

Hooray Mozilla!

Why at 6 seconds into it do we get a shot of Team High Ball's Mx-6 GTU car? If we are promoting racing with the rotary engine why are we seeing this car? Which probably dropped a valve or pulled a piston.

Common Hollywood get your act together.
