I got an RX8 for my wife 8 months ago and have had a few problems in the last few weeks.
I took it to a Mazda dealer and had a compression test, rotor 1 was 3.8 and rotor 2 5.8 and apparently they are supposed to be at least 6.8.
I have had to have the plugs and coils changed (not by Mazda) and the cat apparently needs replacing. Mazda have said that a new engine is required and that the value of the work is more than the car is worth. It really was doom and gloom from their technician.
My question is simple, the car runs well (apart from in cold weather) and looks great so the thought of scrapping it kills me. I can't afford the engine replacement or rebuild until next year but if I do the cat will the car be ok running with low compression?
Also does anyone know of garages/mechanics (other than dealerships)in the Birmingham (UK) area that can carry out major work? |
