Jeff Mobley was the first to send in a link that was a few months old from the XNN (Xmen News Network). The aricle stated that the character Cyclops (now found out to be Wolverene)'s car in the movie X-Men 2 would be the none other than the 2004 Mazda RX-8. Today, confirmation came in the form of the Official XMen 2 Trailer. At 1 minute 6 seconds there is a less than 1 second shot of the RX-8, exiting a garage.
It is still unclear if the RX-8 will have crazy weapony, or what not. We will have to wait until May 2nd, 2003 to confirm.

An image histogram and level correction algorithm was run on these frames, they confirm that it is the RX-8, with a high rear spoiler, and possibly headligh overlays.

One last thing, I did notice that in the trailer, the engine sound isn't correct, as usual Hollywood butchers the sweet sound of the rotary!

It is confirmed that the RX-8 will be Cyclops' in the Movie X-Men2

Here is the Mazda Press Release:
IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The highly anticipated release of
X2 will be powered by more than just box-office muscle -- it will receive an
added boost of rotary horsepower from Mazda's 2004 RX-8 sports car. The
eagerly awaited RX-8 makes its Hollywood debut in the film as Cyclops' "X
Car."
Mazda Motor Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox are teaming up on the
production, which will premiere on May 2, 2003 -- just months before the RX-8
sports car is expected to hit Mazda showrooms across the country.
"With style and a powerful stance, the RX-8 is a sports car like no other,
and we think it will create as much excitement as this new film," said Kristen
Simmons, vice president of marketing for Mazda North American Operations.
"It's an ideal fit for the X-Men sequel, which is filled with characters that
have the same dominant presence as this sports car."
Mazda and Twentieth Century Fox are working together to develop promotions
to support the release.
